Fibre Koi

Headed down to Clarke Quay with Bei this evening to collect my lens. Yes, I got the 70-200mm big ass lens. Heavy. LOL. All set for Jurong Bird Park. But this isn't the main point of this entry. Read on.

After dinner, we came across this art exhibition on level one of Central. It was showcasing art pieces of Koi fishes. But it's not just any ordinary art pieces. These Koi art pieces were 3D. Yes, you did not read wrongly, 3D! LOL

We were initially walking past to get to the bus stop to head home. We ended up spending one hour at the exhibition.

And this is Mr Terance Chua. Creator of the 3D Koi art. He is very passionate about this Koi art. He spent a total of 6-7 years learning about Koi, their behavior, their movement, etc. During that time, he spent two years working in a Koi farm to learn more. 

Thanks to his detailed explanation, we learn quite a fair bit about Koi. Oh, did I mention all this Koi are an exact size mold of the real Koi. The molds are created when the Koi dies. The farm would notify him and he would then proceed to work. Till date, he had created up to 84 different molds.

According to Mr Chua, the Koi that Bei is holding was worth USD200,000 when it was alive. Cool huh!! We also learnt that this Koi is considered more valuable than any other Koi because of its build. Noticed the small bump on its head? That, as per Mr Chua, is the Koi's muscle. This muscles shows that the Koi is strong and would be able to grow up to a length of 1 meter and above.

These three Koi costs S$1,600 each. And they are already sold!!
